Our Mini Break To Meteora & Delphi October 2017
Day 1 Kalamata to Nafpaktos
This was the start of a four day mini break that would take us up in to Central Greece to visit the monasteries at Meteora. The first day was fairly uneventful, the main event was the crossing of the Rio Antirrio bridge near to Patras. Our first nights stop would be at Nafpaktos. The pleasant surprise was when we returned to the room after our evening meal.
Day 2 Nafpaktos to Meteora via Delphi.
This was an early start and a lot of road to travel. First stop seen as we were passing Delphi, to consult the Oracle. Cloudy day so that helped, thought it would be quieter this time of year, but we were wrong. After our visit time for a coffee and a sandwich and then the long trip to Meteora. Look for the coffee after we visited the Oracle. See if you can see what we saw? The day was finished off with a perfect sunset out lining the monasteries.
Day 3 Meteora and Kalambaki
Today was a day for walking round the monasteries. We took advice from the hotel receptionist and some friends on which to visit and when was the best time to go. Oh get there as soon as they open 9 o'clock. So up for an early breakfast to see what seemed like an endless stream of coaches passing the hotel all heading for the monasteries. Well we were up so we joined the crowds going up into the hills. Apparently a lot of half day coach tours leave Kalambaki each morning to tour the monasteries. Pictures are not aloud inside the monasteries, so enjoy the views and be amazed by the whole experience. One extra church at the end was recommended by the receptionist in Kalambaka which dates back to the 4th Century.
Day 4 Ionniana & Dodoni
This was another exceptional day as we left Meteora behind and head to Ionnina. Another day of blue skies and sun. The journey would take us to Ionnina, Dodoni and on to another overnight stay in Nafpaktos.
Day 5 Nafpaktos to Home
The last day of our mini tour was a reverse of our first days journey, with one last stop off to visit the castle above Nafpaktos. We do hope you have found this journey interesting and if you need more info about our trip please get in touch.
